Re: Offaly Minor Football 2024
Agree about the Sundays mass and family day always more important.. if John is a great footballer but splits his time between other sports and doesn't commit 100% to football then in the end he'll be no good to you.. for every john that gets on the team there are 3 or 4 fully committed (and develop...

Re: Offaly Minor Football 2024
If you throw down "if, then" consequences then you are on losing battle. What would be wrong with doing the dev squads so well that these talented lads choose GAA over rugby or soccer. That's where we need to get to. Rules create resentment. I've seen it work in our favour where elite team...

Re: Offaly Minor Football 2024
I made my feelings known about the minor management after last years drubbing against Dublin and was berated but I’d love to see somebody try and defend them now… If that isn’t the last time this management has coached an Offaly team then there’s something seriously awry… The current mgt team are d...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024
Even with it being double header, I'd see no reason to open either canal end or upper decks. About 40,000 at very outside of it between Dublin Kildare Louth and Offaly crowds I'd imagine.

Re: U20 footballers 2024
For me a couple of things, Certain players were going to play regardless of whether they brought their football boots with them. This type of stuff has started to creep into the underage set ups. Secondly, how they were set up to play, and you can go on what way you like about us beating Kildare, a...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024
Really really good display today. It was as good a championship display as we have had in a few years I think so full credit to all involved. I've been critical (fairly) in the past across earlier parts of the league. We can say Laois were poor but they topped Div 4 comfortably and were expecting to...

Re: U20 footballers 2024
Think the 'give it a go brigade' comment is a bit unfair. People are allowed to say what they think here and to be honest, from watching this evening, I think it is a very fair point. We didnt really go at them when we could have. Countless times in the first half I saw us move the ball out through ...

Re: U20 footballers 2024
In that instance, Kildare would be through because of their superior score diff to both teams. Louth and Offaly would then be the same score diff so it would then go to hierarchy based on scores for (within the games between the 3 teams) between ourselves and Louth. If that doesnt separate it, 'Goal...

Re: U20 footballers 2024
New rules suggest it is score diff among the 3 potential tied teams first.

Re: Offaly Minor Football 2024
Not sure how championship works but well done to lads tonight. Longford was not great but tonight was much better, albeit against a very poor enough Laois outfit who got pasted by Dublin. Longford beat Dublin so if it is two to go through, we need to beat Dublin. If 3 go through, we are already thro...

Re: Club Managers 2024
Who are over the Offaly senior club teams this year? Senior Football Tullamore - Niall Stack Ferbane - Ger Rafferty Rhode - Malachy McNulty? Edenderry - Declan Cummins Durrow - Shane Kelly Bracknagh - David Connolly? Ballycommon - ???? Egan Shamrocks? Senior B Football Clara - John Rouse Tubber - W...

Re: Offaly Minor Football 2024
They would certainly not be considered a bad crop and football people from outside Offaly would have seen Offaly as contenders for Leinster at minor level this year. Many of them were in equivalent of provincial final last year in Adam Mangan Cup final, losing narrowly to Galway. They shouldn't be l...

Re: Offaly Minor Football 2024
One could reasonably argue that the good underage groups we’ve had (U20 footballers in 2021, minor hurlers in 2022 and U20 hurlers in 2023) were almost exclusively the work of Tommy Byrne’s structures despite Duignan taking all the credit. The first evidence we have of teams coming through under hi...

Re: Offaly Minor Football 2024
Very poor display from minors who were totally outclassed by Longford. With the wind, got off to very poor start. It was curtains from there as Offaly had wind in first half, but went in 6 pts down. Not sure how good Longford really are but Offaly didnt look up to much and struggled all over the fie...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024
Some observations. Shocking poor first half and LK deservedly led at HT. Probably as poor a half as we played since the Westmeath game. Major issue was the negativity with Offaly having nobody inside opposition half many times in first half. Two super scores from Hyland in first half papered over wa...
