Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

2pm Saturdays. Where Inter County hurling went to die. This is a bit of a tangent to the main theme of the thread, but this is absolutely an issue. It's a dreadful time for a game, and one of the "controversies" you're sure to hear about every year is the weekend where the All-Ireland hur...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Fair dues i admire your confidence. Id say at this point that westmeath are joe mc favourites, give their arguably better performances against a similar level of opposition that we’ve faced. Westmeath will be favourites for the Joe McDonagh, and Offaly have made significant progress this year. Thos...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

I think the fact that there's no relegation mitigates the absence of another "tier two" county from our side of the draw. Barring a huge set of shock results, Offaly were always going to land in the remade Division 1B next year, so this Spring was always going to be a series of challenge g...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024

Honestly, going into the weekend, I still reckoned they had a promotion chance. They fecked up a good position against Clare to lose by a point (where have we heard that story before  ) and then went on to win the games I expected them to win with something to spare. That left them going to Ne...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024

Interesting to see Hogan at 7. There might be bit of reshuffle with either Furlong or Dempsey as Hogan would be more used to playing in full back line, though regularly played at 6 for Tullamore also. I'd be stunned if Declan Hogan doesn't just go straight to full/corner back to pick up Kevin Quinn...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Totally accept that as a valid argument. But how about some outside the box thinking. Offaly play Clare in the hurling league on St Patrick’s Day. If OCP wasn’t up for a double header how about the football in OCP at 12.45pm and the hurling in SBP at 3.15pm. Stand alone tickets for each game could ...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024

Slightly different. I would say that Sligo's very best footballers are at a higher level than our very best lads are - as in, if Kerry went to Sligo and could pick three or four players, I think they'd happily use the services of Niall Murphy, Darragh Cummins, and maybe Seán Carrabine and Luke Towey...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024

Down and Sligo to go up, Wicklow and Clare to go down for me. Clare have lost far too many good players to be able to keep things on an even keel. Interested to hear the rationale behind Sligo?? Some serious individuals on that U-20 team last year, and guys that are ready to make an impact straight...

Re: JP McManus donation

I don't think anyone is complaining, though I would be one of those who would be in the camp of not lauding a tax exile for picking and choosing where his money goes, as opposed to the rest of us who get no such choice in the matter. Aside from that issue however, which is not really one for Offaly ...

Re: End of year hurling standings

Coolderry have some nice players coming through over the next 3 to 4 years and have plenty of young lads currently on the panel. They will be fine. I agree. This notion that Coolderry were going to be relagated was nonsense. They are a long way off winning a county title but never in danger of goin...

Re: End of year hurling standings

Colm Mulrooney with real potential to kick on for Birr, at 31 years of age :D . Can't agree with any suggestion that Clareen responded well to Barry Whelahan. By all accounts it wasn't a happy marriage. Also it is hard to see how Clodiagh Gaels can be considered 'well coached' and 'greater than the...

Re: Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2023

The reality of life for panels that are on the younger side is that out of the 20-something players that played senior A hurling for Kilcormac-Killoughey this year, there will probably be three or four that are in Dubai, or Australia, or somewhere else, by the time next year rolls around. They'll ge...
