Storming Display by Mac!

I have to concur with LS. Ciaran McManus gave a wonderful display in the Offaly jersey on Saturday night. He was very disciplined and played his own part perfectly by winning ball & laying it off or drawing the foul. Ciaran took a lot of stick without reacting. Mac also walked away from the free...

Have Invested

I've put a few quid on Offaly.

They've shortened us up to 4/6 ( handicap 14).

Lone Shark and Bord na Mona Man have certainly moved the market.

Can't see many travelling

Offaly footballers and hurlers have both managed to frustrate their supporters in their last outings so I wouldn't expect a huge turn-out on Saturday. I hope there is a big following but I wouldn't expect it. Offaly support on Saturday - 1500 tops for me. Carlow support - I was there for a League ma...

Sid as Spare Man.

Brian Whelahan as Spare Man - Genius Idea! It suits his style so well. It wouldn't be my Plan A for Sunday, though. The Waterford full back line and goalie are supposed to be vulnerable so I wouldn't give them the luxury of a spare man. Plan A for me would be Joe Brady and two fast corner forwards. ...

Team for Sunday!!

Colm Quinn is a fine left-sided freetaker so no problem with frees from resting Jimmy. I see that Lone Shark has dropped Barry Mooney, our 2005 captain, in his selection. That's surprising! Colm Quinn and Mark Daly work well around midfield/half forward area picking up the breaks and spraying it for...

Stephen Brown

I'm a big fan of Stephen Brown. I think he should be on the team and the only question is where he should be played. He's a perfectly competent score-taker in the forwards and he really embarrassed Noel Hickey a few years ago at full forward but he also looks really comfortable facing the ball and s...

Good shape to Team!

What's the verdict on the selection? Personally I'm glad that Sid is being held back as a possible impact sub and that John McIntyre has kept faith with the lads who have been there all year. The spring and winter leakage of goals make Ger Oakley's return very welcome. We need his strength and pace ...

Trevor Phelan

Apologies for not mentioning that Trevor Phelan (Doon) played for a few minutes and that Des Egan (Doon) was in the subs also! As they say in the newspapers when giving scores on players' performances Trevor wasn't on long enough to rate. He did give one good hand pass over a defender's head to (I t...

Doon Players

In a desperate attempt to boost my grade in the site by putting in another post let me also mention that Doon don't seem to have allowed their players to play for the junior team. The Offaly Express (published on Wednesday) printed a team with three A.N.Others on it and said that Doon were having a ...

Come off your high horse, Biffo5! Anybody watching Offaly regularly knows that Ciaran Mac Manus can be headless. A few years ago I would have said that he is brilliant and exasperating in equal measure! Now he has spells where he is just exasperating! He is the worst distributor of the ball on the t...

Neville Quote 2

Another paragraph from the feature article on Neville Coughlan in the Sunday Turbine (Tribune): He thinks they've adapted to Kilmurray's style: the emphasis on moving the ball on quickly, the importance of tackling the man with the body ("Don't just shadow a fella; hit him and let him know you'...

Neville Quote

From Neville's excellent interview in the Sunday Tribune: "This is only my fifth year with the county yet I'm on my fourth different manager. It's hard when you are used to playing one way one year and next thing a lad comes in and has you playing a different way altogether. Padraig Nolan wante...

Operation

Absolutely, he should have the operation as quickly as they can get him into hospital. Niall has helped to keep us in Division One and he shouldn't take risks with his future.

Could Rhode win the County Championship without him?
