Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024
Chairman in Ennis. Poor form. What difference does it make where he was. He wasn’t going to be playing anyway. Makes no difference on the playing field but I can guarantee you every chairman of every county was at their counties championship match this weekend. What a load of horse manure. Not a si...

Re: Offaly Under 20s 2024
Wexford GAA have up there Under 19 team are playing Offaly in the Leinster Hurling Development League tonight. Assuming this is a group of players between minor and under 20s who are not at the required under 20 level intercounty and are developing? I would say looking at the line up, players who h...

Re: Offaly Minor Football and Hurling 2023
Sobering reading https://www.offalyexpress.ie/news/offaly-sport/1425440/offaly-gaa-chair-s-shock-statement-on-football-in-county.html Its head in the sand stuff from clubs not bothering to set up their own u8 and u10 go games teams. You really do need to get tbe young lads in your club colours firs...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024
The decline of Offaly hurling was not in a straight line. There were ups and downs all the way. The first major down for me was the cats in Croke Park in 05 I think it was. However we were able to defeata Limerick team in the Gaelic grounds a few years later and they had contested an All Ireland fin...

Re: Offaly Minor Football and Hurling 2023
Where are the posters that said it wasn't a fair that a combined team play in the schools competition. Last year was a one off. Next year we will be weaker again. Here's one. Its blatantly unfair putting in a county team against a single school. Leave schools to compete with each other. Every schoo...

Re: Changing of Underage grades and Separation from adult
The rationale of moving minor back to u17 was to kill 2 birds or 3 even. Firstly, lads doing the leaving and playing county minor had too much on their plate. Secondly, tackling player burnout, and Finally, it completely decoupled underage fixtures from adult. Both taken independently have worked. W...

Re: Proposed change to age grades at both county and club level
A couple of great points there in the last post. The change of grades from u7, u9, u11, u13 to u8, u10, u12, u13 was baffling. The crossover at u12/13 is too much for most clubs. The other point about the girls being thrown in to make up the numbers is correct too. The girls have their own teams mos...

Re: U20 hurlers 23
With the Mediterranean weather, flags and bunting up and kids walking around in the jerseys it feels like summer 1995 to me.

Re: U20 hurlers 23
I think the only difference in price is just 5 euro cheaper on the adult ticket.
With a capacity of around 45k for Thurles some people probably thought it would be no bother to get a stand ticket not realising the way the tickets were only selling first for the stands.

Re: U20 hurlers 23
Yet again another mess with ticketing to watch this group. I know plenty of families who rushed to buy tickets last week as the ticketmaster site panicked people by claiming limited availability. All they could get were the stand tickets and so you now have probably many hundreds of teenagers with j...

Re: U20 hurlers 23
What do people think is a realistic crowd expectancy at the game? 30k I'm thinking, based on minor final last year which held 24k in nowlan park plus another few thousand for the minor all ireland If Cork are beaten this weekend by Limerick they might bring a few more as this would be their last in...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2023
A couple of points about Wexford. If Wexford get relegated the only ace card that may save them is to expand Leinster to 8 teams. 7 teams won’t work. Helpfully for them, Offaly and Carlow are top 2 promotion candidates. The stroke that may get pulled is to keep Wexford up and promote both Offaly an...

Re: U20 hurlers 23
They at least learned their lesson from last years minor final in Nolan Park when they were letting in kids for free and the main stand was way over capacity. By selling the kids tickets they can now count exactly how many go in next Wednesday night.

Re: U20 hurlers 23
Its not a great venue in particular if poor weather is forecast with a very limited stand. Terraces are fine for adults and teens, but this will definitely turn off a lot of families attending as the small kids would see little of the action if there is going to be a big attedance. Likewise for the ...
