Re: Div 3 South predictions & general comment

Some things have stood out over the 4 games this year. - Lots of scores coming from play which is always great to see. - Plenty of goal scoring chances being created. - Worryingly most of the goals coring chances are not being taken. - Paddy Dunican has dealt very well under some high dropping balls...

Re: Offaly v Fermanagh

I take it back!
Apparently, the GAA said that if both teams wanted to play the league division finals then they could go ahead.
So it's not that the finals were deemed no-go's and that Offaly went specifically looking for it to be played.
Fair enough play the final so!

Re: Offaly v Fermanagh

While I agree with everything you said, put yourself in the players position. Would you be willing to give up possibly your only chance of winning silverware for Offaly and a chance to play in Croke Park over fears of Mickey Harte? I certainly wouldn’t. Oh I totally understand that. Do we know was ...

Re: Offaly v Fermanagh

Offaly went looking for a final to be played v Derry next week. If the GAA said there was to be no final I'd have left it at that. This now gives Mickey Harte and co. an extra match to observe very closely. It takes Offalys focus off the Louth game in my opinion. Also the lads were assured of going ...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2021

It's rare you get to say it but there isn't much more these lads could have done over the 4 games. The towel would have been thrown in at half time in all games were they boxing matches. 4 non-contests. From watching the streams the following look notable: Fitness Seems to have improved massively. F...

Re: Offaly v Fermanagh

Would it be worthwhile starting Niall Mc for the first 20 minutes then take him off? Then reintroduce him on the 55 minute mark? I get what they are currently doing bringing him on for impact near the end and so far it has worked. But what if it doesn't work? I think management would be regretting n...

Re: Div 3 South predictions & general comment

Last thing i'll say on this as we should be sticking to the sport is that we are all now at risk and those we know at risk of getting news of many other dreaded diseases over the next year or two due to the hundreds of thousands of cancelled cancer screenings. It's insane that we have decided to foc...

Re: Div 3 South predictions & general comment

You'll believe the 'shite' if someone you know or love contracts the dreaded disease. What a disgrace that on a fine day like today 2,000 of us can't be in O'Conner Park well spread out. Does anyone even believe this COVID shite anymore? Fine stay at home then, problem solved. Why are we allowing t...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2021

This nonsense that the game has somehow organically "evolved" into it's current state. It hasn't. It has been hijacked by a bunch of professionals who have systematically destroyed the game to line their own pockets. Name me one other sport in the world that has changed so dramatically in the space...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2021

It’s disappointing so see at least four Offaly social media influencers complain about modern hurling at the weekend. Offaly needs to change the way it plays its hurling. Such resistance to change does not bode well for Offaly’s hopes to change. And you’d hope Mick Fennelly and Johnny Kelly are lef...

I can see an increase in mental health issues post lockdown. It is and will be a very serious issue SearingDrive you are absolutely correct. We've heard non-stop for the last 10 years how important it is recognise signs in people who may be struggling and for people to not be afraid and speak up if...

Re: 50 years on, how Offaly won the 1971 All-Ireland final

Wonderful piece POTH, thanks for taking the time (considerable I'd say) to put this together.
What strikes me now is how young that team was back then. Lots of lads in their early 20's. I wonder would that have been unusual for the time or were young panels the thing back them?

Ger Canning: What would an All Ireland win mean to Offaly? Johnny Pilkington: It would mean a hell of a lot of drinking Ger. Priceless. Honesty, spontaneity and a bit of cheeky humour. Can you imagine in 2021 if one of the body builders who masquerade as hurlers from Limerick, Waterford, Galway etc...
