Re: offaly 2013

I'm sure there are numerous cases where OY could exploit the 'Granny Rule' and bring in a few footballers/hurlers. The issue is the past success or lack of it when these transfers have taken place. Now, I don't doubt the players commitment to the cause, indeed they sacrifice a lot more it could be a...

Re: McDonnell in running for Offaly football job

The start of new growth and ideas. He knows the vast majority of the current squad through schools football already. Will bring belief to a talented but currently lost generation of players.

Re: Offaly Minors 2009

Decent prospects. With Edenderry (Hard luck) and Moate doing well in the schools competitions, there is good cause for optimism. Admittedly, these schools are drawing from more than one county and Kildare have Cribben from the Edenderry team. Still, Minor is alaways about getting on a roll in the ea...

Re: O'Byrne Cup

hard to judge value of O Byrne cup. Good run is good for confidence entering league and might be worth a win or two in first games as it brings good match fitness. Problem is too far from championship which is what counts and invariably teams that go well in it are not there the third sunday in sept...

Re: Next Manager

Lone shark makes the point on the lack of revenue that O' Connor park generates outside of match day. It is very sad that thrown into the mix that this is a great eye sore of a stadium to the town of Tullamore, that there was such poor planning for the future in what should have been the shining lig...

Re: Next Manager

Let the player's decide. They're ambition to succeed should be they;re only ceiling. Not money! Consult 5 or 6 of the more experienced committed players for they're opinions. Form a 3 man selection committee to recruit a new manager with a member from players, county board and an external man (maybe...

Re: Fall from grace and the importance of next manager.

Searing drive is correct on Lar tompkins, although it was only the oter nite that I saw him take on Colm Quinn from offaly in some free taking competition on RTE's 'The Road to Croker' and he wore a cork jersey, I guess that was stuck in my mind at the time of the post. I do remember something about...

Re: Fall from grace and the importance of next manager.

Themanfromferbane makes an excellent point about success rubbing off onto the next generation just by being there and feeling that atmosphere and thus gaining the belief that it can be done. But this is not strictly true in all cases. There are infinite examples of good underage teams that flourishe...

Fall from grace and the importance of next manager.

Offaly is renowned countrywide for it's spirit and never say die attitude, I'm thinking '82 against Kerry, '94 against Limerick, '97 Meath, '98 Clare and Kilkenny, '00 Cork in all Ireland hurling semi final, to name but a few. Whilst some argue that luck and being in the right place at the right tim...

Ahoy Mateys!!!

Proper order, make him walk the plank. About time clubs start taking responsibility. If they did more of it at this the grass roots level, then the the senior intercounty scene would be a lot better off!

Re: u21 result

Ahoy Mateys! Well shiver me timbers, I never did see such an insepid display from an Offaly team in the second half, since the footballers lost to Down before the ball was even thrown in, the previous Saturday. IF I had my way they would be made walk the plank!! . The boys of '98 would be ashamed ( ...
