Random thoughts on Offaly v Dublin

It was encouraging to see Offaly willing to gather possession and being comfortable with that possession. That was facilitated by Dublin’s plan of conceding the short puckouts to Offaly in the first half. Perhaps Dublin expected Offaly go give the ball away at the first opportunity, but Offaly have ...

Re: Offaly hurling championship predictions 2022

It's not as if this year's Senior B final winners are going to be home in time for their tea on the evening of the final.

Re: Offaly hurling championship predictions 2022

To parade with a trophy, and a few days on the beer. Almost the same as usual, really.

Re: Club Managers 22

Arien Delaney going to Belmont. That could well be a very good match.

Re: Club Hurling championship

For the dreamers here who expect last Sunday's game to have a positive effect on the Offaly Senior intercounty team: In November 2014, Kilcormac drew with Ballyhale and only lost in extra time. Following year, Offaly Seniors were at nothing. In November 2018, Coolderry drew with Ballyboden St Enda's...

Re: Club Managers 22

Good old Offaly hurling. Going to hurl like it's still the 1900s. Nice neat 3-3-2-3-3, flat full-forward line (I suppose everyone needs corner-forwards to be the first to be taken off when things are going wrong outfield) and so on. It would be concerning if someone progressive like Bugler is to be ...

Sometimes you gotta win ugly

And that’s how it was for St Rynagh’s and Clodiagh Gaels last weekend. Hard to know why the Senior final should be of such poor quality. Was it the tension of the occasion, the conditions (I was on the terrace and sheltered from the north wind, which may have been a factor in the shooting, particula...

Re: Offaly Senior Football Championship 2021

Note to oul lads who constantly roar "drive it" and "get rid of it", the Tullamore defender attempted both for ye, and that's what happened. Tullamore must be sick after loss to Naas. While the GK made a great save at the end for Tullamore, you'd have expected him to keep out that ricochet off a blo...

Clodiagh Gaels first played a championship game in 2016. Today was a good day, good forecast by Frank the Tank. The Gaels will enjoy today and tonight!
2022 is another day.

Senior final random thoughts

Not a preview. I’ve got to see each of Coolderry and St Rynagh’s twice this year, so chances to assess them were limited. Something to admire about Coolderry rocking up to the Senior final every three years (2015, 2018 and now), then being well off the pace in the other years. The achievement takes ...

Re: Club Hurling championship

I'd say the momentum is with the two teams who came through the round robin series. Both will have established their best teams during that series, and spirits will be high. Which is unfortunate for Brosna Gaels and Ballinamere. I don't think the 'no relegation' would be a factor. Quite possibly at ...

Re: Club Hurling championship

Clodiagh Gaels are a quick, mobile team who thrive on space created by team play, pop passes and line breaks. So it was unusual to hear their manager ordering them not to be handpassing last Saturday. And I wonder, are they being coached in the method that best suits them at all? Clodaigh gaels vs t...

Thoughts on Shinrone

That’s a wonderful thought-provoking assessment of Shinrone by Frankthetank there. A few things to add (thoughts which were provoked by Tank, if you like). So Shinrone are on the go for a decade or so. No need to panic, or throw out half the team, if they don’t make it tomorrow. Kilcormac-Killoughey...
