Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

The best hurlers are now; and there's better yet to come.

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Venues has nothing to do with it. It's not like they have to go to somewhere like Hell or Galatasaray. Away trips won't take a whole day, being at an airport two hours before a flight, and unlike other sports, there's not going to be one game plan when playing at home and another when playing away. ...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Lookit, this time last year, I'd say Laois were JMcD favourites, having come down from a higher level, and Kerry were second favourites, on the trail of a fourth successive final appearance. In a months time, nobody is going to recall who the ante post favourites were. League form is going to mean n...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024

No need to panic yet. No need for anyone to get desperate either. There was always a reasonable prospect of Offaly reaching the end of February without any points on the board. That likelihood was considered by Lone Shark on page 3 of this thread late last year. Wicklow and Limerick are in the same ...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

The numbers of people who'd go for that would be minimal. Someone from Offaly would be out the door at something like 12 noon and not home until 5.30pm. That's without eating. On St Patrick's day which is a family day and has been for years now. I think having a round of league fixtures on the 17th ...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Given that it's raining since January 2023 (with the exception of around three weeks in May/June last year), pitches are saturated, and have actually deteriorated in the last week. It'll be a while before double headers are a possibility again. On grass, that is. Heavy rain tomorrow (more of it) cou...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Dublin in Croke Park in 2018. Working back, beat Wexford down there in 2016. And a win over Limerick in 2015. When was the last time point we actually got a point in top flight hurling? I didn't see last evening's match. But I'm not surprised. Offaly were massively competitive against Waterford. Rou...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Folks! It’s like black Monday, black Tuesday, black Wednesday, black every day Everytime I look in here. Cop yereselves on. In all likelihood, Offaly won’t beat Waterford later today. But does it dawn on ye that they mightn’t have to bet Waterford to take something from the match? Most likely not. S...

Coláiste Naomh Cormac took part in Leinster A championship this year, having won the All-Ireland B championship last year.

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024

Galway v Leix was always fixed for next Sunday. That wouldn't be affectef by a potential Offaly v Galway refixture.

Johnny Flaherty RIP

God be good to Johnny, a wonderfully artistic hurler who gave us arguably Offaly’s greatest moment (that goal), but was also instrumental on the road to getting there. Frankthetank has given the team honours. Along the way, there were 26 championship appearances (scoring 14-55), 40 NHL appearances (...

Offaly Schools will play St Peter's College Wexford in January. Kilkenny CBS play Johnstown in the other quarter-final. In the B championship, Banagher College will play Árdscoil Rís in the quarter-final, while Naas CBS play Wexford CBS. Birr and Heywood appear to have drawn 'byes' to the semi-final...

Re: JP McManus donation

Like everything, the devil is in the detail. The covering letter to boards states "to be evenly divided and distributed amongst the GAA, Camogie and Ladies Gaelic Football clubs of (county)." There are 41 GAA clubs in Offaly; Offaly Camogie has 15 clubs' locations mapped on its website; Of...
