Mule Juniors
I wouldn't put Scobie in the backs; with his scoring rate, he's gotta be Full Forward. Also, that poor oul' elusive mother could use those escapeing skills as a wing half forward. The Guard's wife is loose enough to be a corner forward, but it might not be such a good idea to have her too close to S...

Landsdowne
The new Landsdowne Road stadium will have absolutely nothing to offer the GAA that it does not already have. We have more than enough mid-sized venues of our own that are already under-utilised without thinking about paying rent for someone elses. Also, because that site is already slightly restrict...

Re: Rule42
leave a msg Why? For the satisfaction of the campaigner or for your own? That decision is made now and I very much doubt there is any chance of it being rolled back (I support the rule change, by the way). The Landsdowne project will go ahead eventually and when it's finished, its tenants will not ...

AFL
Good stuff ballymanabroad. I'm a big fan of the InterRules series and I think it will be very interesting to see how this years Aussie team shapes up. The impression has often been that possibly most of the AFL do not like the InterRules. Every year has seen a huge nunber of cry-offs. I know that th...

County Player
It's not the Sheep-Stealers you're playing for now. You've got to knuckle down now, keep your clothes on and you're to stay off the drink .... until Tuesday.

I'm sure every speech by the Losing Captain at the homecoming goes along the lines of ".... we feel we let ye down .... but we'll be back even stronger next year .... we're going to win it for the wonderful fans here tonight ...." Anyone want to work out how many recent All-Irelands have b...

The club player
Well done LS, you've touched on a problem I've considered quite serious, even though it doesn't directly affect me now. An oft-quoted GAA mantra is that "the Club is the most important unit of the organisation". Well it does not seem that way when whole Club Championships get completely mo...

Nicknames
How many different Clara forwards have been called "Shaper"? Ther always seems to be one on the Offaly team every 5 years or so.
Best nickname I can remember in my long-lost playing days was probably "Gorta". Lets just say he wasn't carrying any spare weight.

I hesitate to enter a discussion like this where I KNOW that most of the other participants can beat the pants off me when it comes to GAA experience and knowledge of past games. However, I have full confidence in my debating skills, just reading the points made by each side, judging the tone, spoti...

Galway
Ah, don't be such a grouch Sharky. next year's McCarthy Cup is all up for grabs again, even if Cork retain it next month. Sure they can never keep a team together so they'll probably lose in the Munster First Round next year regardless. The Cats will never get over this. Cody will be booking himself...

Some Nuggets from Míchéal O'M.
The legendary Kerry commentator could fill a thread on his own. Here's a few that I've gathered from his repertoire (some are rephrasing of some above; I cant vouch for which are the originals, if any). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "... an...
