Re: 2017 Walsh Cup

[quote="jimbob17"] Some here have credited the Offaly U21s last year getting to a final as success. It isnt! Who did we beat to get there - Kildare & Carlow - hardly a huge success? Wexford Dublin Kilkenny and Westmeath were all on opposite side of draw and we were hammered in final af...

Re: 2017 Walsh Cup

The intervarsity championships are currently in full swing – the cream of the country’s hurlers who are aged between 20 and 23 (or thereabouts) are involved. I recently obtained the squad lists for each college. Each college named a panel of 35. 16 college teams. 560 hurlers. The cream of hurling. ...

Re: 2017 Walsh Cup

i watched this years minor county final i think the hurling was of a decent standard and there are a number of guys on both teams that i think with good coaching can develop into senior hurlers of a decent standard s o there is hope if the work is put in . last year we played in the lenster u21 fina...

Re: 2017 Walsh Cup

greenairfield sorry for annoying u
its frustrating to see so many guys in their prime at 27 not involved .
Something must be wrong maybe we bringing guys too early
Eamon Kelly expressed the same frustration last year

Best of luck to the lads involved

Re: 2017 Walsh Cup

Lets be positive most of this years panel got to the lenster u21 final last year and we are unbeaten in the walsh cup this year. We should have a proper training facility later this spring . We have a new managment and hopefully they can get these lads to hurler to their potental and get decent pref...

Re: 2017 Walsh Cup

Kingscounty i agree totally Sunday was the walsh cup . Last year Kerry beat us in the league in birr but when it mattered a few weeks later we got the win. I think we need experence down the spine of the team and build the team around them. 1 J Demsey 2 3 E Murphy 4 5 6 C Egan 7 8 9 S Ryan 10 11 C M...

Re: Offaly hurling manager??

Its only the walsh cup but if kidare can score 2-20 against us, what would the big team put past us ? I wonder will K Ryan react and play with a sweeper or will he go back to the clubs to see can he get lads in to plug the holes. Is there any hope of Eanna Murphy Joe Bergin Gary Kelly C Egan S Kinse...

Re: Offaly hurling manager??

Ah, here. The U21 management did not select the Senior panel, and Kevin Ryan’s interview does not back up your claim. For the avoidance of doubt, Kevin Ryan in the radio interview said “. . . had a serious input from the U21 management in the picking a panel”. This is correct. It is a matter of fac...

Re: Offaly hurling manager??

Offaly were lucky in my opinion. Struggled especially in the half forward line but C Doughan struggled too at centre back.

Re: Offaly hurling manager??

Plain of the Herbs its u that is trying to mislead ,Kevin Ryan said on the radio that u21 managment picked the panel as he had not found selectors at that time.
We are in a new year now and we have a win under our belt. Johnny Dooley and Gary Cahill are now on board so lets look forward .

Re: Walsh Cup

Thanks Jimbob – that makes sense. It applies to any sport and any bunch of players but I had a vision on Longwell speaking to the squad and the invariable “whaddafukdoesthatladknow” sentiment simmering around the room. Sam888885 – I never said that tradition was a negative – an irrelevance. You’d p...

Re: Walsh Cup

I see Gary Longwell former Ulster professional rugby player is retained as a High Performance coach. He’s the Performance skills coach at the Sports Institute of Northern Ireland who presumably Ryan came in contact with during his time with Antrim. Intriguing to think that Longwell would be involve...
